Freezing Avocaodo - janeadams - 07-19-2009 OK, just spent a bunch of time in the search mode trying to find an old thread that talked about how to freeze avocado, and was unsuccessful. We've got a bunch of dead-ripe ones, and want to freeze 1/2 for the future. Do I need to use some lemon or lime juice on them after scooping them into a bowl to freeze, or what? Love 'em, but there's just 2 of us, and that's way more quac. than we can eaat! [] RE: Freezing Avocaodo - Chuysmom - 07-19-2009 Jane, I did this last year and we just enjoyed the last of the most yummy avocado ever. You can't slice them and freeze, but I pureed them. In my food processor I added two tablespoons of fresh lime or lemon juice and pureed. I put them into a ziploc bag and then a second ziploc bag. They stayed bright green and were delicious! MJ RE: Freezing Avocaodo - janeadams - 07-19-2009 Carrie, Thanks! I knew there was something about lime or lemon, but not amounts and such. There are times that people give us bags of them, and then there are times there are none. We've also got new trees coming on, and big old ones along the road, so I like the idea of preserving! Jane RE: Freezing Avocaodo - Hotzcatz - 07-19-2009 I always just make them into guacamole and then freeze that. It changes the texture a little bit, but not too much. Kurt Wilson |
