solar eclipse - DoryGray - 07-21-2009

The solar eclipse that happens today 5:21 - 6:13 is extremely partial here in Hawaii, so I logically thought eye damage would be unlikely. According to this NASA site, quite the opposite is true. There I go again using faulty "logic" without all the facts. [:I]

Partial solar eclipse has more of the suns direct rays.... ouch!

One of the easiest ways to see it is to place a small mirror into an envelope with a dime sized hole... aim the mirror (without looking at the sun!) so that the suns reflection is projected on a wall

or you could make a pinhole box pinhole on 1 end, white paper on the other end & place it over your head, facing the white paper- line the pinhole up with the sun & view the eclipse projected on the paper screen

or any 2 pieces of cardstock, one with a with a small hole, the other placed as a screen.... line the two up as above, just no dark box, so hard to get the full eclipse effect

Take a look at the leaf shadows....it's very interesting to watch them during an eclipse.
