Hotels at 77% occupancy - Devany - 07-24-2009

Although we were at the Prince Kapuna Hotel this week and it appeared to only be at about 20% full, here is the latest news on the "recovery":

Hawaii hotels 77% full
Published: July 24, 2009
For the week ending July 18, Hawaii hotel occupancy was 76.9 percent, nearly identical to what it was for the same week last year.

Thanks for the link, Devany.
The Prince has been going really cheap on Priceline, $100 a night, unheard of. Still the occupancy is that low?
Unfortunately the food and beverage cost there can easily balance out a good room rate, if people stay on property to eat.

Just FYI it is the Hapuna Prince, named after the beach. There was no Prince Kapuna. Prince Hotels is a Japanese hotel chain with a presence in Hawai'i.
A Kupuna is an elder (wise and experienced).

I wonder where they got those numbers from. My wife is a director at one of the major hotels and they are running at 51% and I know the King Kamehameha and the Sheraton are only a few percetage point higher.

Big Island occupancy fell less than 1 percentage point to 60.3 percent, while room rates were off 16 percent to average $155.

Now is the time to stay and play at the Waikoloa/Kona hotels...

They are throwing out major deals for kamaaina...

Husbands, do something off the grid and surprise your wife w/ a nice weekend. Grab a nice bottle of wine and take her to dinner at one of those fancy restaurants and treat her to some summer fun...

Dont wait until some generic holiday to do something special. Surprise her and show her you care...[Wink]

Great advice Samdooby!

It's great if the kamaaina aren't also hit by the recession! I could better afford a playcation two years ago at the then prices than I can now at the fabulous prices.
