Lava-Look Concrete - Blakeyboy1 - 08-30-2009 Hello, We are investigating using lava-look concrete on our building project and I wondered if anyone knew anything about it. I have some pictures of it done around a pool here: http://theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/2009/08/investigating-lava-look-concrete.html I found a company in Kailua Kona (http://www.archonconstructionllc.com/) that does this but nothing on the East side. I have been researching it and apparently it is done with a series of stamps and an acid wash. Does any one know anything else about this? I would love to identify incremental costs over standard flat concrete. I think this could be a very attractive finish for a driveway or patio if done right. -Blake http://www.theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/ RE: Lava-Look Concrete - Kelena - 08-31-2009 I have this look in my patio. When you are on island, let me know and I can arrange for you to see it. Mine is a "trim" though....the patio is a regular old patio, but the edges have the lava look (I didn't design this -- Dead Sarong Guy did). It is pretty neat....it looks like lava is intruding onto the property -- which is a neat look unless it is actual molten lava. It isn't. I am not sure if I have the documentation on who did it, but I think it was Pacific Gunite, in Hilo. I would go with trimming, rather than having my whole patio done this way. Here's why: 1) less expensive, 2) it's black! -- warmer to walk on, 3) it's uncomfortable to walk on. I will try to remember to send you a picture. I have also recieved a lot of emails on this subject and will respond to them as I get a chance. It has been a very busy day for me at work today :-) -Blake http://www.theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/ RE: Lava-Look Concrete - jerry - 09-02-2009 Blakeboy1, Check out our website and look at the pool pictures. The deck and waterfall was hand formed (not stamped) so there is no pattern. Various techniques were used to give the concrete texture and then it was sprayed with various colors of acid. Give us a call and stop by if you want more info. Jerry Art and Orchids B&B http://www.artandorchids.com |
