Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - tourist - 09-04-2009 Hey, just got into town a few hours ago and was greeted via a game of chicken (on my side of the road) by an aggro local in a yellow civic. What's the deal? Was I driving on "your" road? It's a great spot, I see why you like it. But how about taking a wider view and giving visitors like myself the benefit of the doubt? Not looking for handshakes and hugs, just treat me like a human. Thanks and enjoy... RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - StillHope - 09-04-2009 Are you sure the guy in the car is a PW member? Because your post seems to be addressed to him. RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - tourist - 09-04-2009 No, I imagine he's not. I suppose I was hoping someone could explain this whole local attitude that is pervasive and we probably both know goes deeper than the punk in the civic. Nice catch on my mistake. RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - whalesong - 09-04-2009 Smile or just ignore them. RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - kimo wires - 09-04-2009 Could of just been a drunk driver. Hwy 130 is one of the most dangerous in the state. Lots of Fatal accidents. Lots of bad drivers. Few Police. Drive defensively. RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - AlohaSteven - 09-04-2009 If you encountered this from a young man in Anchorage then I'd offer good odds he is acting out due in large part to the effects of steroids. Many of the young guys at the gyms are taking them and subsequently driving very "aggressively" -there are more colorfully descriptive terms for this dangerously asinine behavior, but.... But what many call "locals" may not be. Someone can arrive one day from Samoa and be considered a "local" immediately, then a haole I know has lived in Hawaii all his life since his grandfather moved here gets trouble from the county government because he's not a "local". RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - Bullwinkle - 09-05-2009 nah nothin personal bro...... cell phone distraction can happen all over , most likely a real estate agent on the phone to the office. While on island drive defensively and buy the insurance. There are many interpretations of vehicle code about it is part of the charm... It took me a couple of years of going back and forth to find out that my california (AAA) policy was not good enough in this no fault state however. I was rear ended by a tourist from san jose on a coastal maui road. Watch out for yellow jeeps, rental companies put people in yellow cars for a reason! They were on the phone watching and photographing whales, driving like people from san jose will, when the traffic stopped - a call to your carrier a good investment Aloha edited for spelling and fun RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - kani-lehua - 09-05-2009 quote: and, there are many interpretations of loco. i mean "local". ------------ "chaos reigns within. reflect, repent and reboot. order shall return." microsoft error message with haiku poetry RE: Punk, I mean Puna "locals" - StillHope - 09-05-2009 If the racism (http://punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9210) is in the high school the ? is : Where does it go after graduation? |
