... and not look like an obvious rental. Or is that even possible?
What I WANTED to rent was a rusty Toyota 4x4 PU, but they were not available. [Big Grin]

Probably not possible. The barcode sticker in the window is a big giveaway. So is the shiny exterior of any rental. Pretty much the only American made vehicles that folks drive here are pick-ups and mini-vans. So, perhaps a mini-van?????

Daniel,
Perfect, except their website doesn't show rates. I'll give them a call!

Avoid Jeeps and convertibles and I think you'll be blend in enough.

If you have a local connection, buy a $1500 beater, drive it while you're here, let your friend sell it when you leave for $1200.

Rent from Advanced Auto rental who are not at the airport but aren't far away. They have good rates and don't stock the standard rent-a-car automobiles.

I used to rent a big van from them for field trips, nice folks and it is a locally owned business, not a chain.

We did not feel that we fit in all that well in the giant gold Licoln Town Car the rental car place "upgraded" us to in August LOL. Remember that at most places there are no gurantees as to what kind of car you will actually get. Just roll with it, it's no big thing. I have also seen people put those removable stickers over the rental car stickers if it is really important to you.
