Memorial Services set for George Na'ope - Rob Tucker - 11-01-2009 Services are at 5:30 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday at the auditorium. Visitors may call after 1 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. Aloha attire is requested. http://www.starbulletin.com/news/hawaiinews/20091101_Services_set_for_Naope.html "Services for George Louis Lanakilakekiahiali'i Na'ope, a co-founder of the Merrie Monarch hula festival who was known widely as "Uncle George," will be held Friday and Saturday at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo." For any who knew Uncle George and for all who have benefited from his aloha, his gifts and Hawaiian cultural arts (everyone) these services are a rare moment in local history which should bring out the best in Hawaiian society and culture. I intend to be there to pay my respect. |
