Nov. Plant It Hawaii! - Menehune - 11-07-2009

It's the wonderful time of year again to check your funds and see how much you can invest in sustainability! Meet old friends and make new ones.

Plant It Hawaii's - Semiannual - Open To The Public - SALE!
Friday, Nov. 13 & Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 - they don't give times on their website - BUT go early - went last fall around 8am and the line LEAVING was longer than the one going IN!
(I do tend to exaggerate).

Was introduced last year to Noel by our new friends Janet & Cherie - the three of them have enriched our lives in "uncountable" ways; as have numerous "PUNAWEBERS"!

Directions - I get lost in Home Depot (on purpose).

Take HWY 11 to Kurtistown from Hilo/Keaau area or from Volcano and other parts south.
Look for the "red light" turn right from Hilo/Keaau or left from Volcano and other parts south.
Turn right at the first road on the right follow that to the first fork in the road take the right fork follow that to the parking lot.

OH -"Fork It" - here's a MAP!

I don't have a truck.Do they deliver if you pay in person?

RE: Nov. Plant It Hawaii! - Ryan. - 11-12-2009

It's worth noting that their hours are different for these two sale days (Friday & Saturday). It's not posted on their website either. However, straight from the horse's mouth the sale hours are 8am-4pm both days. Happy tree shopping!

RE: Nov. Plant It Hawaii! - Devany - 11-12-2009

Still hope, their trees are quite small, they will fit in your car if you can lay them down. or put them on the floor of the back seat. They are planted in bags that are about 18" tall and 6" across. No they do not deliver to retail customers.

We have a friend with a wholesale account, so we can get the trees cheaper than they sell them at the sale for, but they have a $500 minimum, so whenever he has an order he tells us and that is when we buy. Also, they sell their trees at the same prices at the annual Nurseryman's sale in Hilo.

The prices they are selling their trees for is about 25% less than you would pay at Paradise Plants or Garden Exchange and a few dollars less than those at Home Depot. The big advantage to their sale is that you have a lot more selection and some expert advice about what will grow in your location.

ALso, they have other things than just trees, they also sell vanilla and pepper vines. We have three of their vanilla vines and they are ready to produce in the spring. The pepper vine has already had a small crop and we are looking forward to it growing and giving us more peppers.

Aloha au i Hawai`i,
devany

Hi Devany, Regarding the annual Nurseryman's sale, were you saying the prices during this event are the same as for the semi-annual public sale (happening now) or the same as wholesale account prices? I'm curious as I have a lot of tree purchasing on the horizon. Also, any idea what month the Nurseryman's sale takes place? Thanks for the info.

RE: Nov. Plant It Hawaii! - Carey - 11-12-2009

the nursery sale is the BIAN (Big Island Assn. of Nurseryman) sale at the tennis stadium - this years dates (usually semi annual) were in this post:

I Have heard that to get the wholesale price you not only need to have a large bulk order, but also need a tax ID - most wholesale sellers require that, so it would make sense, but I am not positive on the ID part....

RE: Nov. Plant It Hawaii! - StillHope - 11-12-2009

Thank you,Devany!
That was very helpful.I thought the trees are in rather big pots.
