Vaccination Resolution - kjlpahoa - 02-10-2010

A number of people have complained about Emily Neaole’s Vaccination Resolution as a waste of tax payer’s time and money. Unfortunately these people do not understand politics. Each Councilperson introduces discretionary resolutions that are to address local issues. This resolution was the result of Emily listening to her constituents and taking action. A few constituents express their concerns about vaccinations to Emily. Emily listened to the issues, drafted and submitted a resolution to the Council on their behalf like any responsible Councilperson would do. The fact that it passed Committee and then the full Council indicates that, for some, it was warranted. If it had been considered to be a waste of time and money, I am sure that during the first Committee hearing, it would have been defeated.

What constitutes "a few constituents"? Did Ms. Naeole-Beason's staff attempt to find out what her other constituents felt, i.e. does the majority of her constituents support this position, before she took action?

I heard on NPR that the organization that conducted the study linking Autism with vacines recanted the previous results of the study.

Stoneface

Vaccinations are not and were not local issues. The CoH has zero say on the subject. Meanwhile a primary adviser to Emily on vaccines has a financial interest in the subject. For approx. $50 per eight ounce glass of mineral water he offers his own "powerful immune support... that can only be produced using special sound and light technologies". It is a multilevel marketing scheme which benefits from building and generating fear of medical vaccinations.

I'm rather surprised that kjlpahoa wants to explore this subject. There's lots of fascinating things about it all.

No matter how the Resolution was packaged; what fancy box was used, what colorful ribbon it was wrapped in, what shiny bow adorned the top - when the bow was taken off, the ribbon cut and the box opened, it was just a pile of manure.

I will defend the actions of the Council and government when they are unfairly being targeted because of citizen ignorance or stupidity. But, I will also call out government and the Council when their own ignorance or stupidity needs to be exposed. This Resolution was and act of 100% stupidity and ignorance!

Is a councilperson then supposed to introduce a resolution about everything any constituent contacts them about? They can't do some quality control first? If not, then what is their purpose?

How about introducing some legislation requiring equitable distribution of county resources among the districts? We haven't seen our Councilwoman do much in the way of addressing Puna's always getting the short end of the County stick.

RE: Vaccination Resolution - kjlpahoa - 02-10-2010

It really dosen't matter what constitutes a few. She communicated with some constituents and took action. Now, what constitutes a majority. Is it the majority of all constituents? Have we ever elected a President with a majority of the populous? NO, it is a majority of the voters, or those that speak up. Nothing would ever get done if we always had to make sure that we were speaking for the majority of the population.

But, on the flip side, she is the duly elected representative of the people of the district who by a majority of votes, returned her to office in the last election. Obviously the majority of voters approved of her past representation, what she stood for, and what they felt she will continue to do for them.

Give it a try. Talk to Emily. I think you will find that Emily has gotten a lot for our District.
