i would have thought twice about selling the shop vac for 5 bucks and brought that with us along with the bigger sized clothes i donated. somehow i've gained approximately 10 lbs since living on the BI. how'd that happen?!

I fI did my move all over, I would NOT have brought a container of stuff over. I could have given it all away, bought new when I arrived and probably broken even. If I had sold the stuff, like the Whirlpool Duet and the big flat screen TV, not to mention furniture, I might have come out ahead. . As I look back, nothing was all that valuable. I guess the sentimental value of a few things.. but I could have packed them all in a6 x 6 foot crate with room to spare.

With online ordering, everything is available here now but memories... and we are here to make those!

I brought everything with me 2 years ago, except for most of my winter clothes and sold my old car. My container was less than half full. Shipped the stuff from CA a few days before moving and it arrived at my door a week after my arrival. I would do the same again. Couldn't get any of the furniture I own locally, or most of the cookware, or even clothes. Purchasing choices here are very limited, so if you have stuff you like and can't buy here, I say bring it!

We took the "fresh start" approach and brought only what would fit in two bags apiece, with the plan to retrieve anything else we wanted later. I wish we had brought more, maybe a crateful, and our car. We had the money then, but not now, and there are to many things I don't want to have to replace simply because they are languishing in storage. I particularly wish we had brought the small box we had dubbed "The Box of Things That Must Not Be Left".

Come much sooner if it had been possible.

We shipped 2 cars and a whole house load of stuff, and I'd probably do the same. Once you decide you're going to ship a container, you may as well pack it to the gills, because everything here is more expensive, and things aren't always in stock. Don't bring junk, but anything workable or usable can easily be sold or given away once you're here if you decide you don't need it. Oh, and if you're coming from a place where they have winter, pack a basic set of winter clothes and coats to cover your bases in case you ever need to visit the mainland during their winter...or find a friend back home who'll let you store a few winter items over there Smile

I definitely would recommend NOT using West Point Relocators...didn't get our container for a month after we arrived & all we got along the way from them was lie after lie...horrible service. Managed to make most of the right decisions concerning what we brought, except lawn furniture...should have brought what we had since prices here were much higher to re-buy.

We used Westpoint and I have nothing but praise for them. However, they are in bankruptcy now. We had a full move with packing and unpacking on both ends. We had a high 45' container and 2 cars and yes I would do it again. It did take 8 weeks for us to get our stuff, but we had a shuttle and lots of crating for art and furniture that had to be done. NOT a single scratch.

I wish I would have kept some *mainland clothes*. I did not.

What to bring and how to bring it. I am glad, Rusty, that you started this. I hope when the house sells,it helps me decide on what to do here. We will probably be in a rush, so it will be good to have a plan lol. As if I could ever stick to one. I will be soaking up crumbs of information from all you all.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our
exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the
place for the first time.
