Banana Leaf Eater - maud gonne - 03-30-2010 Something is eating my young, newly planted bananas. I see no insect or eggs on the leaves or undersides, but the leaves slowly but surely get eaten all the way down to the skeleton, turning brown aand finally dying. Any tips on how to prevent this, or if I even need to - the new leaves keep coming out. RE: Banana Leaf Eater - Little Bill - 03-30-2010 I had a similar problem. Turned out to be the rose beetle. You can check for them just after dark. Look on the underside of the leaf with a flashlight. They are brown and about 3/8 inch long. Once found, you can crush them with your fingers. They are easy to control if you only have a few plants. little Bill RE: Banana Leaf Eater - maud gonne - 04-02-2010 Little Bill, Thank you SO MUCH! I went out two nights in a row after dark and found about 30 of the little beetles on the undersides of my 6 young banana plants. They're in beetle heaven now and I hope they didn't outright kill my bananas. What a great tip! |
