Hawaii Island Motorcyclists - kaptkimo - 04-30-2010
A number of Christian, non-drinking motorcycle riders are starting an organization on our island. We would like to do motorcycle rallies and rides as well as "charity" type activities such as toys for tots to help out other groups. Hawaii Island Motorcyclists will hold a forming breakfast at the Hokalani Steak House in Kea'au on Saturday May 1st. time is 8:00 A.M. We are non drinking riders, do you have to be Christian to get involved? We two motorcycles and plan on bring them with us when we relocate.

hmmm thats too bad I personally feel they have a right to ride where they want, same as anyone else. not like its going to be sturgis or anything!!! is it a private owned road? bikers like lovely hawaii same as anyone else. hahahahah just my opinion since I also like to ride motorcycle and enjoy the freedom to ride all over the big island.

yes we all have the right to our opinions however, i truly believe that they can go where they want and if they are riding they wont be there long. sounds like to me you would probly be one of those people that would put up a sign no motorcycls allowed if you could. then again just my opinion. it is a free road to all who want to ride it and as long as what this country was founded on and the rights of all then i say.... go for bikers enjoy the beauty of the island but try not to be too loud and respect those that live there also. as far as golden rule hmmmm out of context since it is dont do this to me sounding however, guess maybe not.
"Wish you guys the best, but Please please please don't organize rides that go down the Onomea Scenic Route. It's really horrible for the residents. I know from experience. It's a very quiet road except when bike groups come through, and then it sort of becomes hell until it's over. Mahalo!"
too me your post (above) was saying dont come down my road! that is a shame that I got that feeling from your post because to me it was initiated by you stating stay out of my neighborhood and to me that smacks of similiar feelings that were protested against by MLK and others. I hope i am wrong and i do realize we all love our part of paradise but so do they.....
in summing up i look forward to riding there and seeing the beauty of that part of the island but, i will try to as quiet as i can for you....... oh there are a lot of us too sorry....

To be fair to everyone, motorcycles should be allowed on any public highway; but they should be cited by police for exceeding the legal noise limits.

agree with you greg 100% and there are those guys and gals out there that do change their pipes. guess the same can be said about loud stereos in cars and homes also i love my peace and quiet also. living in hawaii i guess we become little more tolerant about noise since so many of us live so close to each other.
again agree with you greg and they with the loud pipes along with those with loud stereos should be cited however, not sure if there are enough police around to be looking for just that.... to bad

Motorcycles riding on OUR residential streets are annoying, loud, obtrusive...and yes, there are times that our little road in Keaau gets a lot of riders.... partly because it is a way around the town traffic, and part because there is a cycle mechanic here....but to think anyone could/would say you can not ride here????
In an ideal world you could say 'don't ride here' if you have a noisy bike, but this is not an ideal world. There are cycle riders with quiet exhausts & cars that are much more annoying than the cycles... It would be nice if everyone had respect for everyone, but everyone does not.
From the original post, I think that this is a group that may have respectful riders. To say 'don't ride here on your motorcycle' may not be showing respect for the riders....A better approach might be:
"Please, keep the noise of your motorcycle, car, animals within respectful noise levels, esp. when riding in any residential areas". However I don't think that this will change anyones riding....

ARe non Christian NON Drinking riders allowed? One of us is a Christian that drinks a beer or two a year does that person qualify? Never drinks while biking. Oh yeah in Australia bikey's is the term not riders! LOL
Personally I find it much more annoying, and much MORE FREQUENT to stop at a traffic light and not only have my hearing overcome by the sounds coming from an adjacent auto, but to have the shock waves enter my automobile and body nd mess with my physical comfort at the same time. Have never seen anyone ticketed for this offensive and UNSAFE behavior. Truly cannot hear an ambulance rushing someone to the hospital if you had to, good thing they have lights. There doesn't seem to be any enforcement available there.
I certainly wouldn't put a street name on a forum that is for sure it might be an open invitation.

I am coming to the Big Island on Sunday for the first time, and will be staying in HPP for over a week. I am greatly looking forward to seeing the Puna area. I live in Puyallup, Wa.
I am also a motorcyclist.I've ridden for some 48 years.I also work at a Harley-Davidson dealership.Believe it or not, I am down on loud exhausts on motorcycles. I have owned about 25 motorcycles over the years-all street legal-and have never replaced the stock exhaust with a louder system.For one thing, I have always had nice neighbors and do not want to disturb them.And, yes, a group of motorcyclists with loud exhaust can be disruptive to residents.Many riders have abused the regulations for noise levels and are causing a crackdown on these loud exhaust systems.They will be the first to complain when the law steps in to curb this situation-but it is these same people that are bringing this on.
Generally, I ride alone and prefer not to ride in groups. By the way, I have one motorcycle that gets from 75-95 miles per gallon (a Yamaha).I rode that one a lot (commuting and errands) when gasoline was hitting $5.00 a gallon not that long ago.
Motorcycles can be very fuel efficient, great fun to ride, cost effective, and quiet at the same time.Often the loud exhaust actually produces less horsepower than the stock systems.
There are riders who are responsible, respective of your peace and quiet, and just enjoy a nice ride on a beautiful scenic road.Some of the group rides do raise money for good causes too.
