Throw rugs stuck to hardwood floors.... - Kelena - 05-10-2010 ....I am informed. What to do? RE: Throw rugs stuck to hardwood floors.... - Royall - 05-10-2010 I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear but I thought it would be fun to be the days AH..... Get more of the same rugs and make wall to wall carpet!! (sorry Glen, couldn't resist!! ;-) Royall RE: Throw rugs stuck to hardwood floors.... - Kelena - 05-10-2010 Shag carpet! In Hawaii! Why didn't I think of that!! If I have any extra, I will put some on my chest. RE: Throw rugs stuck to hardwood floors.... - Carey - 05-10-2010 If the reason is the non-slip backing, we used to have that problem in the muggy summers in Il., more so on the tile floors.... If you can have someone gently roll back the carpet (so not to peel off too much of the backing, not a big deal if you don't care about the rugs..), then gently scrape of the carpet backing residue (we usually used a barely moist soft scrub pad like the "scotch brite", or a very flexible plastic scraper or spatula), then rub area with a wood cleaning product or oil (we would use tung or lemon oil, depending on what we had). Let floors completely dry (no oil or cleaning product residue) then replace the rug (or not...some areas we had to have the protection, others we scrapped the rug...) RE: Throw rugs stuck to hardwood floors.... - Kelena - 05-10-2010 Thanks, Carey. That's genius. I am informed your approach is working. No more rugs! RE: Throw rugs stuck to hardwood floors.... - EightFingers - 05-12-2010 Uh oh..... We are planning to have rugs in our house - some on wood floors and some on tile. Should I just skip the pads entirely? Or is there a pad that "works" in Hawaii? RE: Throw rugs stuck to hardwood floors.... - Carey - 05-12-2010 Most backings do eventually break down a little, we found the ones with a silicone "web' on the backing stood up the best... here we are using rubber mats, "welcome' mat type on our finished tile floors, not sure what we will end up with when/if this remodel is finished & we are looking at decor... |
