aloha! i am in a gd cover band and will be playing our first show august first. don't know the venue yet. but it will most likely be in hilo. i was just wondering if anyone is interested in coming and watching us and if i should keep posting when details are available. if so, let me know, if not let this message fall by the wayside. Lots of deadhead-lookin' folks here, so your concert will no doubt feel like the real deal :-)

Best of luck. Sounds like a fun event.

Way old school 60's Deadhead here. What's the name of your band?
Where do you play when you are not on BI?

Furthur, Dan

aloha dan, we actually live here in the hilo/keeau/pahoa areas and just started playing together recently. we wanted to play a show aug 1st for jerrys bday celebration. hopefully we will be able to and make it a yearly thing. with gigs in between of course.
we havent really decided on a name yet....if we play i hope you show up!

What songs are your favorites? What do you cover? Do you encore with Brokedown Palace?

I love the early albums the most, through American Beauty. I also like the traditional songs they arranged, like I've Been All Around This World, Jack-A-Roe, Peggy-O. I found some beautiful versions of them on Youtube, all featuring gorgeous Jerry solos.

The Dead did a lot of great covers themselves, for example "The Weight."

I'll never forget hearing that Jerry had died. I heard it on Italian TV. I was in a hotel room with a balcony over Lago di Maggiore, the moon was full, and I felt so sad.

I was in Palo Alto 1967 too. My kid sister was best friends with Ron's (Pigpen) little sister.

My first GD concert was attended by about 300 at fillmore.
