Does anyone know where we can buy and fill our garbage cans with black cinder? We have a mini van and can only hand load or use cans.

We usually get rock, gravel and cinders at Glover's in Hilo. They are on Leilani street on the airport side of Hilo. They weigh your vehicle on the way in, you can fill up whatever you like and put it in your vehicle and they weigh it on the way out. There is a minimum price, though, sometimes we can't pack out enough and have to pay the minimum but it is still a lot cheaper than buying the stuff by the bag at a retail shop.

I think the minimum may be $15. $15 can be a substantial amount of cinder depending on your point of view. Cinder might be $20 a ton in the yard.
By trying to save money you may end up spending too much. Funny how that happens sometimes. Some of my elderly neighbors buy small quantities by the bag. Easier to handle. Cheaper in its way.

In other words, having a truck deliver a large amount to your property that you can then draw off of for a long time might end up being cheaper and easier.

Mdd,it's true of any wholesale.If you spend $800 you can get a fruit tree for $25 at Plant it Hawaii.Otherwise you pay 2-3 times more for their plants at Home Depot or other place.
For some strange reason most (or all?) people here wait 6 months to buy it for the wholesale price.[
]Half way solution is Macuu market.
So I'd think that some people might be interested in half way solution for the price on cinder.

Then you can likely fill a small car up to the widow sills with cinder for $15 at Glover's yard.
Essentially the cinders are free. It is the handling and trucking that costs.
