What kinda of whales this time of year. - wyatt - 09-21-2010

Yesterday evening while sitting at Seaview Ocean park. We saw smaller type of whales breaching and spouting. What a nice surprise.

Possible they were short-finned pilot whales, which are members of the dolphin species.

There are a number of toothed whales (sub order: odontocetes - the one that dolphins, orcas & pilot w) and a few baleen species ( sub order: mysticetes - the most famous is the winter season humpback) There have been some recent sitings of pilots, beaked and psuedo-orcas that I have heard of recently.
