Ralph and I checked this out yesterday and what a sham! It cost $7.00 to get in (per person) and the deals were few and far between. Call me old fashioned but $25.00 for ONE tee-shirt or 2-4-$45.00 just does not seem like all that great of a deal. The electronic stuff was in old looking and worn boxes and I'm not enough of a computer geek to know if any of it was a good deal but the cheapest lap top that I saw was $199.00. The deals on the perfume and such, not so great either and I know for a fact the product one guy was selling as Chanel 5 was NOT. Just thought the unsuspecting public should know the truth since the radio commercials make it out to sound like the deals of a life time. Oh, and the $19.00 cd players that were advertised were sold out as there were only 20 of them to begin with. Just like my mom always said, "If it's to good to be true.........." My vote for the weekend? Go get wet, unless your car is in the shop.

These scam bargain sales happen all over the mainland.
Avoid them as there are not any bargains to be had, other than the hype.

The bigger the letters, the louder the talk, the farther away you should be! BTDT and have the T-shirt to prove it!
One place I DO like to visit is the swap meet at the Aloha stadium in Honolulu. Some really bizarre stuff - very entertaining.

Another thing to look forward to:
Bought some racks from Borders for a school project... but they needed them to fill with "things coming in". Seems like the Borders closeout will be bringing in more "liquidation sale" things, much like the liquidation items downtown. When they get to the point they are bringing in the stuff (from past visits to "liquidations Sales" - mostly junk) then you know they are milking it... (I foresee the sign wavers & poor sandwich sign people trying to woo in the shoppers....)

The reason there are still some tables and chairs in the cafe at Borders is they're going to a local senior center, which is letting the chairs stay until the closure.
They seem to have some stuff coming in from the warehouse, or stuff that was on order? But all typical Borders merchandise. The Hawaiiana shelves emptied right away and then refilled. Friday I stopped by and there was a new CD that I looked up on Amazon and it was just released last week, so definitely was new stock.
I've been using the Rewards coupon to pick up some good stuff. This weekend is a 40% off coupon.
If they get to the point where they lower prices to 60-75% off, I might do some quantity buying.

Over half of the furniture (shelving & such) has been sold, or bid on, but the liquidator said that shelving stays because they are getting more stuff in.... Sounds like more than just finishing up the warehouse orders.... but.... The Liquidator rep is with the same firm that does many store liquidations from the mainland I have seen... so... I am guessing that my crystal ball will hold forth & there will a liquidation of stuff never stocked at Borders...

I assume it's the same company that is doing it here in Kona too, advertised as "Liquidation Sale" and they charge $8.00 to get in. They had nothing there that was a good deal for a smart shopper and I suspect some(?) of their electronics are factory refurbished items.
