What elavation still get coconuts and breadfruit? - Cagary - 08-06-2010 Any one have Breadfruit and coconut trees producing at 700 feet or higher? RE: What elavation still get coconuts and breadfruit? - Scott_S - 08-09-2010 We have both planted here in Hawaiian Acres at 1200 fee but it will be a few more years I think before they are old enough to fruit. Plant wise thought they look good. Some other things that are producing now are tangerines, grapefruit, tangelos, pineapples, papayas, bananas, lemons, acerola, and figs. Scott RE: What elavation still get coconuts and breadfruit? - durian - 08-09-2010 I have seen a row of 10 fairly tall (15' to where a coconut should be) coconut palms at 560 feet near Pahoa with no coconuts on them. However, I was always trying to determine the upper limit of coconuts and must have seen them at 600 feet because I remember that number, though not the place where I saw them producing at 600'. I hope someone can answer the breadfruit upper limit. I don't know it. RE: What elavation still get coconuts and breadfruit? - fishnchamp1 - 08-10-2010 Dunno about breadfruit, but I can offer a quote from the International Palm Society's President "We are at 880 ft, and while there are plenty of Cocos nucifera in this area, it seems to be a hit-and-miss proposition if they're going to flower or not. Without any research, or scientific backing for this, I'll make an educated guess that up to 600 ft or so, they probably all flower, and then between 600 and 1000 ft there's a gradual, and increasing, reduction in the number of individuals that will flower, and above 1,000 ft my guess is that none, or VERY few will produce fruit." "Elevation range 0–1550 m (5100 ft). Breadfruit has a wide range of adaptability to ecological conditions. It grows best in equatorial lowlands below 600–650 m (2000–2160 ft) but is found at elevations up to 1550 m (5100 ft)." http://www.agroforestry.net/tti/A.altilis-breadfruit.pdf RE: What elavation still get coconuts and breadfruit? - rasman - 08-10-2010 We are at 1400 ft Mt.
