Mulberry - StillHope - 09-03-2010 Any experience with growing red mulberry? How close you can plant another tree to it? I am going to plant a tangerine ("Dancy") next to it. So far the mulberry looks like a vine just 2 feet or so . I'd appreciate your advice. ___________________________ Whatever you assume, please just ask a question first. RE: Mulberry - lquade - 09-03-2010 stillhope, the mulberry can get as big as you want it. huge, or small. they take pruning very well. it is going to grow much much faster than your darcy. if full size darcy, give em 15-20 feet for the future. RE: Mulberry - StillHope - 09-03-2010 Thank you, lquade. ___________________________ Whatever you assume, please just ask a question first. RE: Mulberry - Rene Siracusa - 09-06-2010 I have a mature orchard of Dancy tangerines: 20 feet apart is just right. I don't know about red mulberry, but I have 2 black mulberries, and it could well be that the growth habit is similar. They don't get very tall, but have a widespread canopy. The branches can hang down to the ground - almost like a weeping willow. Be prepared to prune it regularly or its spread will encroach on paths or nearby plants. It does take well to pruning, and you can root the cuttings successfully. RE: Mulberry - StillHope - 09-06-2010 Thank you,Rene. I think that red mulberry is the "official"name for a black one but I am not sure. I planted the tangerine about 9 feet distance to mulberry but will give it more space on the other side. ___________________________ Whatever you assume, please just ask a question first. |
