School Board & OHA Trustee Candidates - birdseye - 09-12-2010 How can I get informed about School Board & OHA Trustee candidates before I vote this Wednesday? Information and/or opinions welcome! RE: School Board & OHA Trustee Candidates - csgray - 09-13-2010 I already posted about the BOE races (that thread dropped to the next page) but the League of Women Voter's website has a voter's guide for that race. http://www.lwv-hawaii.com/survey.htm R. Ray Hart is the only one who supports equitable funding for charter school students. I emailed the other two candidates with questions about their statements and Roch Wilson emailed me back and accused me of not doing things the "Hawaii Way" and the Wurst came back with some real apples and oranges scenarios to justify discriminating against charter students. There's lies, damn lies, and then there's statistics. He was really massaging his statisctics to support his position! I can't help you on the OHA election, if you find a good source of information please pass it on. Carol RE: School Board & OHA Trustee Candidates - lystpo - 09-13-2010 Ray Hart is the guy. He will replace Mary Cochran who has held the seat since 2002. Mary is not running because she sees the demise of the BOE as we know it. Mary was just taking up space waiting for a chance to enter real politics. That said, she was only a part of the disfunction. Ray taught and engaged in education reform on Maui. He was part of the best charter school on Maui (well, the only one)and really has first hand knowledge of putting community and parents first. Eventually, the BOE will crumble. Imagine, they just voted to standardize education in this State. That means all children studying the same thing at the same time at the same pace. Make sense? Yeah, vote for a person who cops to that idea and you will get exactly what you vote for. Ray comes personally recommended from people on Maui in the know. He's got my vote. RE: School Board & OHA Trustee Candidates - birdseye - 09-14-2010 Thanks for the helpful info and insights. I came across another link for the BoE candidates: http://www.lwv-hawaii.com/survey.htm. Each candidate states their background and answers questions posed to all three. From what I've heard, the OHA Trustee election is not on the primary ballot. |
