Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - YurtGirl - 10-31-2010 Just got a call from a seemingly automated system claiming to be from First Hawaiian Bank stating that my card had been canceled, press 1 to reactivate, then it asks for the card number. Most of us know better, but for anyone that might get duped into this... it's got SCAM written all over it. And did anyone else get that call? Anyone who doesn't actually have a FHB account?? RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - Lokahi - 10-31-2010 I received the same call yesterday...hung up when there was no caller ID available...called the Pahoa branch and was told "it's a crank call".... RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - hotinhawaii - 10-31-2010 Article in the Trib today about this scam. RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - David M - 10-31-2010 Got mine at 0030 this AM ![]() David Ninole Resident RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - Bob Orts - 11-01-2010 Repoert ALL phone scams to the Federal Trade Commission and to your State Attorney General. The more reports, the more details, the faster they can act. RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - YurtGirl - 11-01-2010 I got a text this morning. How do they know who has a FHB account? Or has anyone who does NOT have a FHB acct been called? text says: From:bdassow@cornettes.com message First-Hawaiian-ALERT. call now 2144832246 I looked up cornettes and spoke w/ bdassow, but it's not her, she got something like 4500 calls already today. Poor lady! RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - mdd7000 - 11-01-2010 They don't know who has what accounts. They simply use a robo-dialer and try every phone number there is. They are bound to eventually get someone who will fall for it. With apparently 4500 phone calls to this poor lady, it appears a lot of people are suckers for a scam. RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - Bob Orts - 11-01-2010 To add onto mdd7000 explanation, they also are not just fishing for account holders. Someone who does not have an account may think someone fraudulently opened an account under their name and ID and they respond trying to clear it up. In the process, they may reveal personal information that could cause ID theft. RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - mdd7000 - 11-01-2010 Good extra info, Bob. Not directed at anyone in particular: If you have a missed call and you don't know who it is, why in the world would you call back the number anyway, especially if there was no message? Maybe it was a scam/phishing call or maybe just a wrong number? DON'T call it back. RE: Phone SCAM claiming to be First Hawaiian Bank - kimo wires - 11-01-2010 I just got the call. Robophone. wierd 4 digit number. I just automatically hang up on any call asking for my account info...then call in myself. Only give out information if YOU call and can be certain about who you are talking to. |
