Anyone able to recommend a good body shop? - Spider Tim - 11-02-2010
Aloha guys,
We were in an accident yesterday near Pahoa, another car turned in front of our car at the last minute, Tim was going straight on the highway and had the right of way. Good thing we have new tires though, when Tim swerved the car responded, we feel that saved a bunch of lives, but there was still a collision and it turns out the other driver has no insurance. ;( So now were left with a crumpled front end that we need to pay for ourselves. As our insurance doesn't cover collision either. Gah.
So I was wondering if anyone out there in Puna-space can recommend a good and fair body shop? We don't have a lot of money so I have a ton of searching ahead of me and any leads from you guys will be so appreciated.

Do you have Uninsured Motorist coverage? If so, your insurance should pay for the damage caused by the uninsured driver. Just a thought.

Was the uninsured drivers car destroyed? They will have to pay your damages or they will no longer be able to register their car.
I was rear ended near Pahoa and the kid who hit me refused to pay.I did the repairs to my car myself and only wanted a couple of hundred for the parts I had to buy.
He did not receive a renewal notice on his car and when he inquired,He found out he needed a notarized release from me to get it registered.
I got my money !

Mikewj, I don't think we do, we chose the cheapest geico insurance which covers the costs for the other driver if we are at fault, and our medical. Thankfully we don't think Tims hurt, his back feels tight but we're gonna wait a few days to see if it unkinks by itself. Thanks for the thought though.
Obie, I'm not sure. Tim said it looked pretty bad.
Hopefully we can work something out that doesn't give anyone any extra stress. So far the other driver seems to be wanting to man up which is awesome. And if it continues to be that way, we're going to be as civil and kind as possible and figure something reasonable out. I'm just hoping to find the cheapest decent body place I can.

The very best shop is MS Auto in Hilo Town. 30 Kukilo St. 961 6330.
There is another guy right behind Kaleos who does stuff for Honda. ... Look for the VW bus es back there. I think he would work with you.

Along these lines, anyone have a recommendation for a mechanic (or dealer) with a competent European car (Audi) "practice"? Have heard of someone named "Pierre" (sp?) in Hilo.

John at Pahoa Auto Repair(behind Pahoa Auto Parts) is very good. Not cheap, but fast, efficient and akamai.
(for mechanic work- doesn't do body work)

The Best is "Amazing" right behind the old Chevy dealer. They have the finest paint booth on the island, maybe the state.
