Pigs in lot next door - rprr - 11-15-2010 A pig seems to have made it's home in the empty lot next to us which is highly overgrown. How do we get rid of it/drive it away? It seems to be totally unafraid of humans. RE: Pigs in lot next door - csgray - 11-15-2010 There are people who will trap it and take it away, many without using firearms. Check Craigslist under farm and garden, I see them advertising there pretty regularly. Carol RE: Pigs in lot next door - rprr - 11-15-2010 Thanks very much. I had not even thought of using Craigslist. Unfortunately, at present there appear to be no Ads from people offering this service on the Big Island RE: Pigs in lot next door - mdd7000 - 11-15-2010 Post your own ad? Free meat. My freezer is sort of full, but kalua pig is real tasty so there could be some more room in there somewhere. Kurt Wilson RE: Pigs in lot next door - rprr - 11-16-2010 Hotcatz -- I am in Hilo in the Kaumana area. I tried to send you an email but it bounced back. Could you email me? I can then give you all the information if you are still interested. Thanks. RE: Pigs in lot next door - csgray - 11-16-2010 Look back at the archived listings on craigslist, search for pig and the old listings will pop up. Carol RE: Pigs in lot next door - Rene Siracusa - 11-16-2010 The County actually has a program (unfunded), that is really a list of pig hunters who will help you - or you can borrow a trap from the Humane Society. Dominic Yagong spearheaded the county program, so his office will know how you can access the list: dyagong@co.hawaii.hi.us. RE: Pigs in lot next door - rprr - 11-16-2010 Thanks everyone for the various suggestions. This morning I started by calling the federal, state, and county offices that deal with forestry and wildlife. As Rene pointed out, the county does maintain a list of hunters/trappers. I did speak to one and am trying to arrange something. I have never dealt with wild/feral pigs. This pig actually does not seem to be afraid of humans. In fact it tried to come close to us. Maybe it is a tame pig that ran away or escaped. However, the pig seems to have disappeared. The last time I saw it was yesterday evening. usually the neighbor's dog would bark but the dog did not bark all night. So it must have not stayed here last night. Furthermore, I have not seen it today so far. Let's see if it comes back tonight. |
