Looking for dwarf Sharwil avocado - lavalinda - 11-23-2010
Aloha!! Anyone know where to get a dwarf Sharwil I have tried all the usual sources. I have some sharwil that I planted from seed but I don't want to wait for years. Anyone have any luck grafting a dwarf Sharwil to seed started one. I would also be interested in cuttings that I could graft.
I'm also looking for pineapple starts....we can not eat the pineapple fast enough to start a grove of pineapple.

My dwarf avocado tree is not a Sharwil. It's just your generic dwarf tree. I had trouble finding a dwarf avocado of any kind, but maybe you will have better luck. If you, do please let us know your source.

Why are you looking for a dwarf? You seem to be in a hurry to get fruit. Do you think a dwarf will produce fruit quicker than a regular size avocado tree? It won't.
Who told you that there even is such a thing as a dwarf Sharwil? Make sure to ask someone who really knows avocado trees if it does exist. I've never heard of it. There are dwarfs, but the fruit isn't the best.
If you are only looking for an avocado tree that doesn't get too tall, just get whatever kind you like to eat and cut it back whenever it gets too big. Avocado trees don't mind being cut back at all. They'll still produce plenty of fruit, but the fruit won't come overnight.
Some people say one type of avocado tree produces faster than another, but soil, water, fertilizer and general care are much more important for getting fruit early than any one type of avocado.

I've one small tree called a 'Mini-cado' and said to be basically a small Sharwil.
Still young, so not news on fruiting.

wow didnt know there was such a thing... but amazon has little cados for 69 bucks.. too rich for my blood.. i just keep them pruned. amazon says they only get 8-10 feet and fruit well. interesting..

Yeah, that's what my tree is: a little-cado. Very cute and doing fine so far. I think I paid $7 at Maku'u. For those of us with lots of less than one-acre and other stuff on it, dwarf trees are a good solution, especially when they don't get pruned regularly. Next: dward breadfruit. Yep, they exist.

Hi thanks for the repy! maybe dwarf is the wrong word...20foot tree is what it is called but it fruits within 2 years instead of 8!
