Cardboard doesn't have a real long shelf life in this humidity. You might find used, empty boxes somewhere. Not as easy as it might seem.

Hilo Ace Hardware, on Kilauea, sells decent-sized used cardboard boxes for $.50 each. Some are quite thick and large. They display the boxes towards the back of the store, on the main aisle, just before their warehouse area.
