family reunion planning help - csgray - 12-18-2010

My mother wants to host a family reunion, possibly here on the Big Island for 4 couples, 1 newly arrived infant and 1 single adult. The Big Island possibilities we are looking at are: some people stay with us (we can put up one or two extra couples) and some stay in a vacation rental nearby on the water in HPP, or 1 or 2 houses big enough for everyone in Kapoho, Kohala, Puako, or South Kona. Easy access to swimming and/or snorkeling are important if we don't stay in HPP.

The other possibility is we all meet up somewhere on the west coast of the Mainland, or we get together somewhere near Puerto Vallarta which is close to where the young couple and baby live.

Any direct leads or suggestions on specific places to stay are welcome, we already know how to use VRBO and google, but are looking for personal experience based suggestions.
Mahalo,

Carol

If they have never been to Hawaii would that be a good place to start? Is the getting together the primary function? Or a vacation together to see something new?

Life goes on, with you or without you.

We live here and have a big enough house in HPP for almost, but not quite, everyone to stay with us. If we stay here in Puna we will need to rent a house here in HPP for the overflow, a pool would be nice since there are no close beaches. Otherwise we could rent a really big house somewhere else on the Big Island.

Everyone, except two people, have been here several times before, and they both live in warm tropical places. The primary goal is to all get together, but everyone is big on swimming and snorkeling, one person golfs, 3 are avid hikers and bikers, nobody is big on shopping or nightlife, our ages range from 85 years-3 months.
