Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - LeeE - 12-26-2010 Great video and the speaker/builder is a hoot! Bright guy. http://www.wimp.com/creativehouses/ RE: Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - Radiopeg - 12-27-2010 I loved it. Just loved it. With enough clear coatings I might not even worry about splinters. I wonder if I could do an inside project for my home like this, with a Castleblock shell. Or could I epoxy an organic look outside over a more austere outside? Life goes on, with you or without you. RE: Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - Kapohocat - 12-27-2010 Thanks for sharing this! We are basing our remodeling project on "recycled" materials... well it didnt start out that way.... we were just broke... lol.... now I am keeping track of how much new versus how much old.... it's turned into a fun thing to be able to say we are still 25/75 new to recycled. Here's our rules - new - from any of the usual suspects - HPM, HD, etc etc. Old - Given to us, re-purposed, craigslist, recycle center, re-used etc This works much better if you are broke - because not only must you resist the urge to buy new, you have to reuse & repurpose. We have been given some wonderful items from under friend's houses, in storage, etc. Catherine Dumond Blue Water Project Management 808 965-9261 Dakineworkers.com RE: Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - LeeE - 12-27-2010 Mahalo, I thought folks would enjoy it. He breaks it down into great bite sized pieces ;D RE: Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - Rob Tucker - 12-27-2010 A very nice and informative presentation. RE: Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - dldixon - 12-27-2010 Big Ted fan, always smart and entertaining. Thanks RE: Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - Carey - 12-29-2010 The Oct-Nov. issue of HanaHou! magazine had an article on the work Re-Use Hawaii is doing on deconstruction (Oahu). Link: http://www.hanahou.com/pages/Magazine.asp?Action=DrawArticle&ArticleID=912&MagazineID=58 We have deconstructed most of our house, & offered the materials on freecycle, Keaau Transfer & Habitat. If you are willing to do the time to deconstruct, there are venues that will take the material.... but I think it will be a while before there is the demand for a deconstruction crew (most on island would not pay the money for the crew) RE: Creative Houses from reclaimed materials - Kapohocat - 12-30-2010 Exactly Carey! Thanks for the link. When Robert was doing a project on 27th in HPP, we freecycled most of the scrap drywall, tile bits, etc so it helped the owner with costs of hauling too. PS But now I wish I had those tile bits for my mosiac! Anyone cutting tiles soon? I am looking for blues/greens or seaglass-ish colors! |
