dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - spunky - 12-31-2010 A guy in a white Jeep Cherokee/Laredo with Oregon plates (2nd letter "T", 3rd letter "W") deliberately plowed down a dog in front of me while I was walking on Paradise near Beach Ave around 5-5:30pm today. He didn’t even stop. He did roll down his window & yell that the dog should be on a leash. Only it wasn’t my dog – it was a neighborhood dog that got loose. I never saw it before–it was walking ahead of me & my dogs (which were all on leashes). The guy could have easily gone around the dog but he purposely ran it over & kept coming straight at me. The dirtbag didn't even turn to see if the dog was dead or alive. I'm horrified. have no idea who owns the dog. I feel awful. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - spunky - 12-31-2010 sorry - should say DOG run over RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - birdmove - 12-31-2010 That sucks! Years ago I was driving down a street with parked cars all along both sides and a dog darted out and I could't avoid running it over. I stopped and spoke to the owner. The dopg was still alive and I said he needed to bget to a vet right away. They said they couldn't, so I took the dog to the vet myself. The vet took the dog in. I don't know what happened to the dog, but I felt terrible.I can't imagine some heartless sob running down a dog on purpose. I know about where you are talking about. jon Jon in Puyallup, Wa. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - AlohaSteven - 12-31-2010 Well, that sucks, but thanks for letting the neighborhood know about what happened. spunky, if you have not already then please do jot down all the details you can remember describing the driver (age, race, facial hair, any characteristics) and vehicle as best you can and then call the incident in to the cops. It is good to build a record on this sort of person as, alas, it is unlikely to be an isolated incident for him. Is there a leash law in HPP? There is in Lelani but I am unaware of one here. Whether there is a leash law or not, the drivers actions seem to me to constitute reckless endangerment (he drove straight at you) and perhaps terroristic threatening (deliberately killing someone else's pet in front of them; he thought the dog was yours). Since pets are considered property under the law there would also be destruction of property. Animal cruelty. And so on- the police should have enough ways to make some charge or other stick if a license plate can be connected to the description of the vehicle and driver. There is an HPP Neighborhood Watch meeting tomorrow morning (Saturday, 01JAN2011) at 9am in the HPP hui. Please do come if you can. I will ask everyone there to put the word out through the Neighborhood Watch grapevine to look for a "white Jeep Cherokee/Laredo with Oregon plates, 2nd letter "T", 3rd letter "W"." )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( Baby Hummingbird http://wimp.com/babyhummingbird )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( )'( RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - missydog1 - 12-31-2010 How awful, horrible, sick. [ ![]() Hawai'i Law on Cruelty to Animals. (I remember when this was passed, being shocked at how lax the laws were prior to this.) quote: I bolded the sections that seem relevant. I would like to think what happened would be first degree cruelty, but I sort of think it would be second degree, as there was needless killing, but not budding serial killer level of torture and mutilation. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - spunky - 12-31-2010 FYI Aloha Steven - thanks for the heads up re the meeting but probably won't make it at 9am on New Years. ![]() this dog had been loose on 1st street when I first was walking my dogs. An older couple was walking with the dog (I thought it was theirs). They said it belonged to someone on 1st street and they were walking to the house to see if the owner was home. I passed the couple again on my way back and they said the owner wasn't home. The couple kept walking on 1st street. The dog followed me along 1st street although I was trying to shoo it away from my dogs. I crossed Paradise and walked along it heading toward Beach. The Jeep turned from the Hilo side of Beach Ave and headed toward the highway. The Jeep driver saw me and my dogs as well as the dog ahead of me. I thought for sure he would stop or at least veer around it but he purposely went head on and hit the dog. The dog ran off. The thing is the driver thought it was my dog because he yelled at me that it should be leashed. I had to get out of the way of the Jeep. The guy was haole and a Japanese/local lady with long black hair was in the passenger seat. Of course sidewalks on Paradise would be nice but that's a whole other issue. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - robguz - 12-31-2010 Wow, I really hope you report this all to the police and the humane society. How many cars fitting that description can there be here? If you had to get out of the way of the Jeep to avoid being hit that is a major issue in itself and this person should be prosecuted and stripped of his license even if there was no issue regarding any dog. Disgusting. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - Obie - 12-31-2010 "The Jeep driver saw me and my dogs as well as the dog ahead of me. I thought for sure he would stop or at least veer around it but he purposely went head on and hit the dog. The dog ran off." So if the dog ran off, it probably didn't get hit. RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - dmbwest - 12-31-2010 Maybe that loose dog killed his chickens or threatened his family as they tried to walk out their front door one day. pog RE: dog purposely run over in HPP New Year's Eve after - spunky - 12-31-2010 Obie - the dog definitely got hit. I heard the impact when it's head hit the front grill and saw it's neck go backward and heard the thud when the dog hit the ground. It's not something you'd forget. The dog ran from the scene but it was definitely hit. |
