Chile just had a 7.1 earthquake, but they say there's no danger of a tsunami in Hawaii.

MAGNITUDE - 7.2 MOMENT

BASED ON ALL AVAILABLE DATA A DESTRUCTIVE PACIFIC-WIDE TSUNAMI IS
NOT EXPECTED AND THERE IS NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII. REPEAT. A
DESTRUCTIVE PACIFIC-WIDE TSUNAMI IS NOT EXPECTED AND THERE IS NO

Figures, the one that generated a wave was an 8.8 I think, which was almost 100 times stronger.

They revised the scale in recent years, so that as far as I can tell, what is now a 7 would have been more like a 6 before. A 7.1 ain't what it used to be. Now an 8 is the bad boy, and a 9 is the planet-shaker.
