Any medical marijuana sucess stories? - Orchidlandguy - 02-24-2011

I am recovering from a fall off a cliff and just now able to get out of bed. Started PT this week and PT suggested I try medical marijuana for the pain. Do any of you have success stories with using marijuana for pain?

Does anyone know the legality on the growing of marijuana once I get a Rx from a doctor? Is there a Hawaii State legal doc that I can read to be sure I don't get into any trouble and stay well within the law?

Again, I am NOT interested in all the anti-pot propaganda in response to this post. I would like to hear some sincere responses from folks who have used marijuana medically to improve pain.

Thank you for your help in this.

Medical Cannabis tends to be most effective in the treatment of chronic problems.

I would question the real efficacy of MMJ in treating pain related to a recent injury. It more takes your mind off the pain, rather than alleviating it.

Hopefully, before your plants would be ready for use, the pain will be subsiding as you heal normally.

Beware of over using prescription pain killers. They are dangerously addictive.

Thanks for the links and information.
YES, I do know about Rx painkillers being addictive. I am off all of them now. Was on lots and gradually weaned off all. Now I am on ibuprophen but still lots of pain and don't want to go back on narcotics. so thought this suggestion is worth exploring.
Not sure if I am going to go the route of medical marijuana, just thought folks on punaweb might have tried it successfully for pain and wanted some opinions on the effectiveness.
I busted up my back and neck and ribs as well as both legs, so lots of mending to do. PT will help and I am thrilled to be released from the bed.
Again, thanks for the info.

I have friends who are MMJ users and the therapy is, as I said, primarily effective for chronic pain. Potential upside or downside is .... you just might like it for uses beyond your immediate pain relief and end up with a new vice (or libation).
Patient and persistent PT is often very effective. Injuries such as yours usually take years to recupperate from.
Stretch slowly often.

Try em, brah. After all, the most important example to know about would be your own.

I've seen it work on severe chronic pain, seizures, ect.

One of the most important actions on how PokoLoko reduces pain is how it inhibits glutamate release:

But there are better ways to go about lowering serum glutamate levels for the average person.

You should take a look at reducing the amount of dietary free glutamate in your diet. (MSG, Nutritional yeast, isolated pea protiens) Glutamate is an amino acid and a neurotransmitter than is involved in nerve signalling, and therefore pain.

I have more information regarding foods low in dietary free glutamates. But not eating dairy and wheat, and lower protein in general would be a good start.

You might also want to look at zinc supplements.

But make sure they have copper in them as well.

Thank you for your sincere replies and suggestions. Will do more research on diet also.

Orchidlandguy,

Mega doses of vitamin C (a couple + grams every hour or two to bowel tolerance) also helps with pain. Hope you feel better soon.
