Beer - mac nut - 03-12-2011

I bought some beer today for a barbeque and the cashier asked for my drivers liscense and scanned it with something. I am 61 so i know it was not for under age. Never seen that before, any comments?

currently state id's have no bar code, get one of them and use it as your form of identification instead of a drivers license

Meantime, screw them up by handing them a passport, if you've got one handy.

It's all going into some database somewhere - odds are, it won't be used to your future benefit. Odds are, it won't matter at all, but I still think it's offensive.

could this be a new homeland security practice
61 and being carded?

My understanding is that at this time the scanning is for verification of a valid/fake drivers license only.

Based on some laws that can be passed, my further understanding is that eventually if you are arrested for an offense that is alcohol related the authorities will be able to determine who sold you alcohol (what type and quantity) on that day or date.

One can only imagine the different things the authorities can do with this information and some outrageous laws our lawmakers might create. [8]

For years prior to Florida passing a law making stoplight camera tickets legal, Gainesville Florida was forcing new businesses (like Home Despot) to install new signalling in conjunction with their new stores - going so far as to not allow the store to open until the new traffic lights were functional (one store hired rent-a-cops until the signals were working.) Of course, all new signalling installed in Gainesville was equipped with stoplight camera equipment - equipment wasn't illegal, just couldn't make the tickets stand up in court.

Until recently....
