Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - Aki - 03-16-2011 Has anyone seen the rolled bamboo fence panels locally? We're looking for the panels ready made where the bamboo are strung together with wire, ideally in the dark 1" mahagony color. Here's a picture: http://www.calibamboo.com/bamboofencing.html RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - TrevorKane - 03-17-2011 Please forgive the tangential link, but these guys have a good sense of humor about living bamboo fences (see the video): http://www.tytyga.com/product/Weeping+Willow+Bamboo+Plants RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - csgray - 03-17-2011 We got a roll of bamboo screening at home depot in Hilo about 3 years ago. What we got was smaller than 1" diameter and light colored, but as I recall they had the more expensive rolls that were closer to what you describe. Carol RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - KeaauRich - 03-17-2011 Carol, How did that fencing hold up? I was told by a friend that the wire tends to rust pretty quickly and then the whole thing falls apart. RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - csgray - 03-17-2011 We were living right on the ocean in a fifth floor condo, it got sun, rain, and regular sea spray. Considering the conditions it served us well for 2 years as a visual barrier between us and the neighbor's lanai, but it fell apart when we took it down for the move. Carol RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - Royall - 03-17-2011 quote: Get the point across!! I can't imagine it doing as good a he says though!! My bamboo doesn't grow as fast as he is describing!! Loved the cat fight next door!! LOL Royall RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - TrevorKane - 03-17-2011 We planted a single 3 gallon pot of Japanese Timber bamboo about 4 years ago, so far it roughly triples in area covered every year. The stems started out about 1/2" thick and 7' high, last year they were about 1" thick and nearly 20' high. Last year was the first year I started keeping it "boxed in" to a bed-space - it's covering an area roughly 20'x20' now. I plan on letting this year's "out of bounds" growth get to full size and harvesting it to make stuff, last year I just cut the out of bounds stems as they appeared. You can still see through it, barely - the bed shape is irregular, but where it's 10' thick or more, it's an effective visual screen this year. But, it does take a measure of patience, before last year's growth, it wasn't much of an effective screen yet. And, before the running bamboo shriekers start - it's at least 50' from the nearest property line, and we do keep it contained to its bed space. It's sort of like really tall grass that you only have to mow once a year - with a sharp shovel. Edit: when I first posted this, 10 days ago, this years' growth hadn't started yet. This afternoon I counted at least a dozen new stalks 1 to 1.5" in diameter, and 5 of them are 7 to 8' high! RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - OpenD - 03-18-2011 quote: There's a sample panel like this mounted on the front of the Home Depot in Hilo. RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - hawaiideborah - 03-18-2011 Walmart has the 1" size. Home Depot has the 3/4" size. Both had it in stock yesterday. I am also considering using it for fencing. We are going to use galvanized wire to hold it onto chain link fencing. RE: Rolled Bamboo Fence Panels - Aki - 03-18-2011 Thank you for all the responses! We are looking for this product for an indoor (bar area) application, so possible deterioration of the wire from being exposed to the elements is not an issue. It's more about being able to cut the product (say in half) without the whole thing falling apart. Also, I'd really like the dark brown bamboo instead of the 'natural' or light color. |
