Thoughts on Hu Honua? - Greg - 03-24-2011

I really like the idea of Biomass as an energy alternative to petroleum. Can they scrub the emissions as efficiently as they claim; or is it a (pardon the pun) a smoke screen?

There's a lot to like about biomass for energy production.

Something to consider, though, is the amount of growing field that will be required to feed the plant (think about: square miles), and what that field will look like. I'd want some specifics about this before construction of the plant starts.

It can be managed nicely, in reasonable harmony with nature, but more often business tends toward a clear-cut rotation job to minimize the amount of land needed, and it can end up completely raping the land where the biomass is grown.

In Calif. I lived near a small logging town which had 3 biomass plants with scrubbers. There was never any visible smoke emitted. Most of the smoke in that valley came from home wood stoves and outdoor leaf burning.

Why is it that these folks that bought land the realtor lied to them about are not suing the realtor? Why go after the energy plant? Seems the realtor didn't loose his license and is still operating out of a large office with a limo to boot!!
