I agree! and use Freecycle, garage sales, etc as much as you can!
If we slow down the need for shipping of goods, we can at the same time, reduce the use of the landfills for items that still have a usable lifespan!
1) try to use your cellphone for longer than the newer greater one's release date.
2) Glass jars work just as well as gladware or ziplock containers.
3) add your suggestion here!

Mend clothing and shoes (if shoes can be repaired, many no longer can) instead of replacing them.
Cook from scratch and plan for leftovers for lunches instead of buying expensive little plastic boxes like "lunchables".
Keep your car tuned up and decent tires on it so you get better gas mileage.

If you drink, brew your own. My husband used to be able to fill a Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale bottle with almost exactly the same tasting ale for less than 25 cents a bottle. With Hawaii prices and inflation that might be 50 cents now, still way better than the 4.50 a bottle I just saw for that beer.

Get to know your neighbors who are also growing/producing.... In my neck of the woods we have a very loose approach to barter. "What you have in abundance, share". When I have eggs that have not sold, I give them to people in our little "group". I am delighted to come home and find lettuce in my fridge. Last time it had a few bell peppers and tomatoes in with it. I enjoy dropping by with a loaf of bread, some eggs, etc. It is a great idea to grow all your own stuff, but realistically, not everyone has large land available, and most people get good at growing one or two things, so do what you do best! I find green beans grow really well here. You can harvest them twice a week and when I saw them in the grocery store for $4.49/lb I knew what a big part of the garden will be this season!

Good idea, Kapohocat. All of us together are much smarter than any one of us. Also, if we swap abundance for abundance everybody has plenty. If you have too many bananas and your neighbor has too many eggs, apart nobody has any banana bread. However, you swap your abundance for some of their abundance and everyone eats well.
Our personal mantra is "never pay retail" at least, if we can help it.

I also call ahead instead of using gas to drive somewhere that might be closed, not have what I want or charge too much for it. I use my AAA, Tesoro or Maikai card to get $.05 off each gallon.
