What are these beetles? - Sue Nomie - 04-10-2011

Does anyone know what those beetle like bugs are that seem to get in at night and just hang on the ceiling?
They look a bit like a Firefly. They are getting in somehow when the lights are on. They are
in more abundance this time of year (Spring). They are slow and crunchy when you catch them.

Hi...I have no idea what they are but I too have thousands of them this time of year. They seem attracted to the light....then I find them dead in the morning everywhere...I don't spray but maybe reinforce the weather stripping around screen doors...that seemed to help

Do a search for beetle in this forum, I don't remember the name of them, but I posted about them some time ago and figured out what they are. They come around en masse when the guava fruits and falls. They love fruit and veggies, burrow right in and munch away at it. Drives me batty when I have our fruit or veggies left unprotected.

Sue- it sounds like I have what you have. They are attracted to light and they are very slow. It's driving me crazy because sometimes they fly down to my bed. I don't even open my patio doors anymore because they get through the screen doors. But I guess they get through cracks in the house somehow.

Andy- I don't find them dead in the morning though. Only fruit flies.

Yurtgirl- I looked at your previous posts. There was mentions of Chinese Rose beetles and Japanese beetles. I googled for images and they don't look the same as mine.

Below are links to photos of the actual beetles in my house. Hopefully someone can identify them.
