Source for young coconut meat? - Susan - 07-10-2011 Just received a new cookbook from Costa Rica and plan to work my way through it a recipe at a time. Some I will have to save for our Hilo visit in October to take advantage of the fruits I cannot find here. Quite a few of the recipes call for young coconut meat. Do you know if I would be able to find this at Makuu or the Hilo Farmers markets? Mahalo, Susan RE: Source for young coconut meat? - riverwolf - 07-11-2011 Yes, easy to find at Hilo, Makuu, Seaview and Pahoa markets. Sometimes there is a fellow at four corners who sells them and on the old gov./honolulu rd, there's a nice guy who sells them and also weaves hats and bowls, just look for "the weaver is in" sign. riverwolf RE: Source for young coconut meat? - Susan - 07-11-2011 Thank you riverwolf! RE: Source for young coconut meat? - Radiopeg - 07-12-2011 Can someone tell me where Four Corners is? I have heard many references to it. Life goes on, with you or without you. RE: Source for young coconut meat? - taropatch - 07-13-2011 Radiopeg, intersection of highways 132 (pahoa-kapoho) and 137 ("red road"). http://www.hawaiihighways.com/photos-Red-Road.htm RE: Source for young coconut meat? - Carey - 07-14-2011 Susan, many here asking for young coconut meat ask for "spoon meat coconut", because it is still more gelatinous and spoonable (almost looks like haupia) RE: Source for young coconut meat? - Susan - 07-15-2011 Thanks for the tip Carey. Gelatinous is what I will be looking for. I didn't know where Four Corners was either so I have two new bits of information. RE: Source for young coconut meat? - Radiopeg - 07-15-2011 Thanks for the info, I am starting to get my Puna Legs. I love it here. Life goes on, with you or without you. |
