Rabi - 06-17-2011 You can get in trouble for the "single" word in the ad, it's discriminatory for rental ads by both Hawaii and federal laws. Aloha, John S. Didn't mean to imply marital status.... it is an occupancy thing. Thanks for the heads-up. My take on it is I think the law specifies and refers to "a single person" as in not married or "unmarried person only" would not be lawful. "Single" referring to 1 person when followed by the word "occupancy" I believe is correct. Singles or doubles does not imply married in tennis. Single scoop or double scoop does not imply married scoops in ice cream. I think Rob's ad could stand as "single occupancy". RE: Nice cottage for one person $550 incl. util. - John S. Rabi - 06-20-2011 Anyone wanting to know more should read the "1968 Federal Fair Housing Law" and its "1988 Amendments" for the federal part and the "HRS Chapter 515" for the additional restrictions in Hawaii.
