"engaged in some kind of strudel." Lee, that is my kinda engagement! (& with that much strudel, may be easy to ward of the dogs ;~)

Shouldn't the speaker address human psychology rather than dog psychology?

"Dangerous and vicious dogs" are the one big downside of our neighborhood. Neither I nor any of our guests can take a nice stroll, or go jogging, or even a bike ride, in our 'hood (Nanawale). We've all been chased, threatened, and/or bitten. We've reported to police and Humane Society, and sometimes the owners restrain their dogs as a result. But for every dog reported, there always seem to be more. It's running the gauntlet every time we walk. We always take a stick if we dare to venture out. It sucks. Do other neighborhoods have this problem? It's not one often mentioned in the "downside" comments of living in Puna that we so often read here on Punaweb.

Maybe a speaker from the humane society would be appropriate. I would value the experiences of some one from the organization sharing their thoughts - they may have some very good insight and statistics.

Humane society is also on the front lines daily basis - and seem to do a very good job.

Its about funding imho- the island woefully short of funding to deal with this issue.

I don’t know why it only costs $2.00 to buy a dog license here. It seems to me as if the cost of a license was raised and licensing was enforced it would go a long way towards funding our humane shelters on island.

Dog owners should be held accountable for their animals. Do they have a leash law? Maybe worth looking into. Owners make their animals vicious by the training they are given. Maybe the owners need to be fined. And yes I agree, a dog license for two bucks, come on most mainland licenses are at least ten and have leash laws.
