Redistricting Final Draft - james weatherford - 11-10-2011

The Commission voted for a final draft today, after a full, brilliant, and inspiring day of hard work.
There were a few testifiers.

There were several people who stayed throughout the day and applauded the passage of the motion to accept the final draft, in which Puna does have two whole and entire council districts totally within Puna.

I have been in attendance in various roles at multiple hearings and meetings in the Council Chambers. Am certain I have never observed as much positive attitude and cooperation towards meeting a common goal.

Public hearings coming up (Nov 21 Kona and Nov 22 Hilo, I think) and then one more commission meeting November 30.

Thanks,

The Commission can modify or change the final plan until the end.
Please keep paying attention to the process.
It's not quite over yet.

I know a lot of people put in a lot of time and energy on this matter. I'd like to say thank you very much. Puna so needs this to be done. Peggy

Is there some place where a detailed picture of the map is available? The map on the County website I found is the same one in today's paper. In particular I am wondering where the line between 4 and 5 his. Highway 130?

For most of the way, the boundary between Districts 4 and 5 is highway 130.
Exception:
The portion of Hawaiian Paradise Park on the mauka side of hwy 130, around Pohaku loop.

The boundary goes through Pahoa Village and turns toward Kalapana along 130, until just before Kamaili Road from where it turns cross country along the back side of (taking in) Leilani and toward Red Road

On Red Road, Kalapana, Kehena, Opihikao are in 5; Pohoiki, Kapoho in 4.

Jerry, if you download the map file to your computer then use the County website's software to view it, you can zoom in to see street detail showing through the transparent colors that define the new districts. Look for the "how to view maps" link on the county website for directions.

So they split Pahoa Village? That's interesting because there was a big push not to split communities of common interest, and we in HPP specifically testified on that subject.

RE: Redistricting Final Draft - Rob Tucker - 11-12-2011

Yeah, it sounds like my house is in District 4 and a hundred yards away the Pahoa Cash and Carry is in District 5. It's okay with me. I'm not offended or anything. It's not like I won't have a council representative.
