chickens & goats - clouds - 11-20-2011 I live in Hawaiian Parks...are there any limitations in regards to keeping animals especially chickens and goats? I want to be self-sufficient and want the animals to feed my family. the chickens are not for fighting. please help. thank you. RE: chickens & goats - Rob Tucker - 11-20-2011 If it is zoned AG you should not have a problem. RE: chickens & goats - clouds - 11-21-2011 quote: RE: chickens & goats - clouds - 11-21-2011 Thank you for your quick reply...i want to clarify that this is in Hawaiian Parks and NOT HPP. Neighbor wants to settle this with an attorney. my property size is one-third of an acre. RE: chickens & goats - Carey - 11-21-2011 I seem to remember that Hawaiian Parks is Residential zoned...but this is dusty bin area of the brain.... to check, just go to the county parcel data site & enter your PIN #. Link: http://www.hawaiipropertytax.com/Search/GenericSearch.aspx?mode=PARID or address. Link: http://www.hawaiipropertytax.com/Search/GenericSearch.aspx?mode=ADDRESS If your lot is residential, you are limited to the animals you can have (esp. IF your neighbors object.... as there is no active enforcement unless there are complaints) ALSO, even if your lot is ag. rated, any community CCR's could also limit the animals you have... RE: chickens & goats - CaveManRogers - 12-29-2011 Some interesting info I came across.....Might be useful to you if you keep chickens. http://www.treehugger.com/green-food/training-chickens-to-eat-your-slugs-video.html Slug eating chickens....The chickens were even fighting over them. I've heard rat-lung disease can be a problem. RE: chickens & goats - Rene Siracusa - 12-30-2011 About a year ago I asked the UH-Ag people (CTAHR)if, when my ducks eat slugs, rat-lung disease could be transferred to the meat or the eggs. They said the question hadn't come up, but they would check on it. Several weeks later I got a call that neither meat nor eggs would carry the disease. I was given a long complex scientific reason, which I no longer remember. So with chickens it's probably the same as with ducks. RE: chickens & goats - tada - 12-31-2011 Thanks for reminding me to only look for ag property. My chickens won't touch big chunks of meat- I have to chop it up. They won't even try rip it with their beaks. I been feeding them the cheapest dry cat food Ally Cat and they prefer the seafood variety to the chicken flavor. They also like the sawgrass tassels which i think of as really small rice grains I guess. But they really like those foam coolers and shells to to protect electronics. Any harmful chemicals in that? I been chasing them away and they look ok so far. RE: chickens & goats - EightFingers - 01-04-2012 Don't eat raw meat or eggs! RE: chickens & goats - CaveManRogers - 01-04-2012 In the video she trained them to eat the slugs by starting off feeding them little ones. And I hadn't though about the chickens catching the disease...I can't wait to get to HI so I can learn all this stuff. |
