Coco Coir truck load - Sniper Steve - 04-27-2012

Was wondering if anyone knows of a person or supplier on the island? I'll be needing a truck load around Xmas time. I've got the usually names for soil, but will be needing some coco coir to get things started.

I've done a search here and I'm still looking through google, but nothing as of now. The coco is going to be for the aquaponic systems will be setting up and also some soil mixture for potted starts.

Truck load, means about 10 yards.
Thanks,
Steve

i get mine at BEI. but i don't get a tone of it, just a case at time. but the guy at BEI, the owner, i forget his name, he said something about a discount for a large amount.

also if you go the BEI and ask to see one brick of it, the brick has a label and on it the phone number of the company that distributes this stuff from Thailand. you can probably call them directly and see if they will ship it to you, i belive their office is in honolulu. i no longer have the label as i used up all my bricks for now.

i usually pay 5 bucks for a brick a foot square by about 3-4 inch deep. which goes a long way when it expends as you know.

Afternoon Mary,

thanks for the reply. I know about BEI and seen their products around. I'd rather keep my money locally if possible and help support local business if possible. I've heard from a friend and I'll have to check back with him. He told me Royal Gold was sourcing their Coir from the Big Island or use to. I'll keep hunting around. If I can't find anyone. I could also get a chipper and buy local husk and chip them.

I know what others might say. That's going to be work and gas. I just think we should focus more on local business, then sending money oversea. Thanks and if anyone knows of a larger supplier. Hit me up.

PS: Mary, sounds like you have a nice garden from what your burning through for Coir and your Greenhouse.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

my greenhouse is allright. i am using coir because it seems the most sensible thing to do due to the fact that it should last at least 7 years unlike a lot of other top soil mixtures.

if you figure out how to get a lot of coir, let me know, i be happy to buy local if i could.

thanks
mary
