Quake!
#11
I often wake up about 4 or 5 then go back to sleep, so I was up already; in Hawaiian Acres it built up gradually over a few seconds to a very sharp JOLT, then quickly died away. It looks like it was under one of the Kilauea pali, so it was probably part of the slump adjustment.

My home in Ka'ohe Homesteads shook for about 5-6 seconds at 4:58 am (I checked my clock)starting with a jolt. The kitty in bed with me looked up but didn't otherwise budge - I guess she figured I would protect her.

I rarely feel quakes asleep or awake. This one found its way into my dream then gently shook me awake. It lasted longer than I expected but lulled me back to sleep. Pele earthquakes are cute in comparison with what I'm used to in Tokyo.

Why would they schedule this for so early in the morning?

If you are referring to the early time of the quake, maybe it was set to UTC....nicely in the mid afternoon to their clock!

And geologic time is sooo slow & this was such a minor adjustment of a slip, that it probably was not even on the schedule!
