Actually, for a short time, there was a BBQ place in Pahoa, about 2 years ago. It didn't last long, but I don't know if it was because the quality wasn't there or if the community just wasn't into it.

I think the reason they didn't make it was they couldn't compete price-wise with huli-huli.

It was Jake's Wak-A-Rack BBQ, but he moved his business to Honaunau and recently opened at another location too, at the driving range at the Old Airport in Kona. He is doing pretty well.
