How do you heat a pool?
#21
I'm a retired white collar guy who can't even change out a garbage disposal. I cannot build my own pool solar heater. I don't even cook. No really. I cannot heat a pizza. I've proven this to skeptics before who have watched it burn before their very eyes. Perhaps I can do these things if I concentrate on them but I've never had to before and so have no practice.

I want to devote my time to other things, really.

I just want someone come out, heat my pool, I pay them the going rate, then I wave bye bye.

I guess I am coming to the realization that there is no such person. He is never coming.

Drainpipe is in HPP and if you want someone to do a complete install they are the best !

Live at low elevation. Warm pool.
Live at higher elevation. Why a pool at all?

I live at a very low elevation. Pool is not warm right now. Drainpipe puts in solar hot water heaters. Not the same as a pool heater.

Kelena, good thing to think about....for the last 2 weeks, there hasn`t been enough solar to heat ANYTHiNG!...

I am only asking if you actually contacted Drainpipe, as their website specifically mentions "Solar POOL heating" 3rd bullet point here:
" we'll ensure the work is done perfectly:
Solar water systems
Solar hot water installation
Solar pool heating
Solar energy equipment and systems"
on this webpage: http://www.drainpipeplumbing.com/solar-water-heaters

Granted, they may have used a boiler plate solar web page... at least it is worth bugging them if they did!

If you do want to go with the easy to install mats or domes (mats, like the dome thing, need more space & units than the higher efficiency heaters) Jim & I would be pleased to help you with it... I do know that 16 of the 10 ft mats do nothing to Pahoa `s olympic sized pool when there is no sun & lots of rain for a week.... shiver`n me timbers after todays Aqua Aerobics!

From my earlier post: "The literature that came with our solar hot water heater panels had a section on pool heating."

Hot water heating is hot water heating regardless of the size of the tank (80 gallon hot water tank or 8,000+ gallon pool). I do believe Drainpipe is capable of installing either system.

ETA: I believe their estimates are free.

Kelena, try Gabriel Androyna who owns Smart Plumbing Hawaii. 888-393-9296 www.plumbinghawaii.com smartplumbinghawaii@gmail.com
I know that he does Solar hot water installs, and has experience with aquaponics and landscaping ponds. Solar pool heating has to fit in with that skill set somewhere.

Course you could also use electric (heater or heat pump) or propane to heat the water, neither of these need sun to heat...so would give you toasty water even on days like today
Here are some of Amasons offerings (have no idea the size you need & with the electric, the panel space you have) Also no idea if they really do ship here!

Wow, thank you Carey, as usual. So it would be possible to order one from Amazon and then have a plumber install it -- a really knowledgeable plumber as I am sure this is not something they do every day.

I do see the third bullet point where Drainpipe says its does Solar Pool Heating. I will give them a call on Monday. I think Solar is the way to go as propane would emit fumes and could not be left unattended and electric would enslave me to Helco.

I'm hoping I can persuade my neighbors to remove some landscaping that shades the pool in Winter.
