Benefits of Beekeeping
#1
Benefits of Beekeeping (Hilo) **ETF

In this course you will learn treatment#8208;free beekeeping practices based on bee biology and developing a relationship and understanding of bees, their castes, and the roles each caste contributes to the hive. Instructor Jen Rasmussen has designed this class series for anyone new to bees as well as for those who have bees and want to learn a new way to relate and care for them. Jen believes that it is not possible to care for bees properly if you do not understand how they function and create their hive. The management skills developed from this course are all focused on preventative methods. Students will learn how to foresee the cause of sickness and prevent it by providing hygienic hive care and encouraging bees to do what they do best.

Since 2008, Jen Rasmussen has been caring for honeybees and learning with them on the Big Island. Over the years she has developed methods for maintaining her hives without the use of chemicals or treatments. She started out caring for hives in her community and also organized the beekeeping program at Island Princess Macadamia Nut Farm. It was there that Jen started teaching others how to care for bees in top bar hives and without foundation sheets and has developed methods for caring for hive management that support natural hive processes. In her spare time Jen removes bees from houses and abandoned structures, including teaching about bees for over 6 years. She enjoys sharing her experiences and love for bees with others.
