Going on vacation FROM Hawai'i
#1
Where do you go? Another island, mainland, abroad?

Living in/on Hawai'i, seems you would never need to go anywhere else[Big Grin]
I imagine I'll still go to Europe, but also thinking about China,New Zealand, etc.
So, where do you go?

We go to SFBA once or twice a year to visit family.
Just returned from a month in Japan. Bought Japan Rail Pass (must buy here first) and went all over Honshu, Kyushu, and Shikoku, but didn't get up to Hokkaido this time-- on the list for next time. Stayed in ryokan and hostels, brought only carryon luggage, had wonderful eye-shopping and temple, shrine, museum, and garden looking. Could easily have stayed another month, but home and work were calling.
Leaving in October for 5 weeks total. Fly to NYC for 3 days then on to Italy where will immediately go from Roma to Venezia 1 week, then down to Firenze, over to Sorrento, finish up one week in Roma then back to NY for 3 more days to acclimate before back to HNL/ITO. Mostly vrbo mini apts so we can cook and home base in each city/area. Will be first trip there. Planning on gaining 10 lbs so making sure I leave that much down off 'normal' 165. Extra exercise for legs so can do molto steps w/o too much fatigue (I'm in 70th year).

People go all over the world on vacation from here... Many of our friends have been to Europe, South America, Central America & North America, Africa, Mid East & India, the Pacific Islands & Asia (Japan for many of our neighbors...) Some even go oversees for dental & medical work..

We have gone to a couple of the other islands, around this island & to Australia (the JetStar first day announcement of service Honolulu - Sydney, the fares were $35 each way... couldn't pass up that opportunity! - probably the only time in my life when the fuel tax & airport fees were the main cost of a ticket)

There was a survey published about this in the PBN last year. Everybody knows that the #1 vacation destination for Hawaiians is Las Vegas! [Big Grin] The #1 choice for the "non-gamblers" [Wink] is interisland destinations, followed by SE Asia.
