Nothing But Treble Brings Double Trouble to Hilo
Hilo, HI January 18, 2015 – Amy Horst, Soprano, and Dorothy Williams, Piano, are Nothing But Treble. Together with their friends, local singers Erin Smith, Phill Russell, and Mark Sheffield; local pianist Walter Greenwood; and Texas pianist Sharon Prince, they bring their unique interpretations of classics and standard favorites to Hilo. Showtime is Saturday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Protestant Church. Tickets are $10.00 general and $7.00 students and seniors. Tickets are available at Basically Books in Hilo and at the door. For more information, call 640-2898.
Double Trouble presents a musical play on words, combining voices and piano – and in one instance guitar – in a variety of ways to present pieces for two or more performers. From songs of love by Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn, to songs of place by Queen Lili'uokalani, singers and pianists join together to bring works new and old to light. Nothing But Treble and their Double Trouble friends bring to life classic songs, arias, and piano works of composers including Mozart and Donizetti. They move audiences with stirringly emotive renditions of these works.
Nothing But Treble and their friends also celebrate Broadway, movies, and popular music. “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge, “And So It Goes” by Billy Joel, and songs by the great songwriter/lyricist Ruth Lowe join with mellow pop classics including “Perhaps Love” and the Broadway duet “Who Will Love Me As I Am.” With tunes and styles for everyone, the songs of Double Trouble prove so engaging that audiences just can't help singing along.
Nothing But Treble includes Hilo based soprano Amy Horst and Minneapolis based pianist Dorothy Williams. Erin Smith and Phill Russell appeared most recently to Hilo audiences in the Palace Theater's production of La Cage Aux Folles. Mark Sheffield teaches voice at his studio in Keaau and at UH Hilo. Walter Greenwood plays piano, organ, and keyboard all over East Hawaii. Sharon Prince lives in Houston, Texas, where she works with young musicians as an accompanist and coach, after years as a school band director.
When asked how the duo created Double Trouble, Amy Horst said, “Following on the heels of our successful shows Bach to Broadway and One Charming Night, we decided it was time to invite our friends to join in on the music-making and pull out all the stops!” Dorothy Williams responded, “I love to join others in making music. Great fun!”
Nothing But Treble's Double Trouble comes to Hilo January 31, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Protestant Church for one show only. Tickets are $10.00 general, $7.00 students and seniors, and are available at Basically Books and at the door. Call 640-2898 for more information.
