When is Old Navy opening/update on Hilo Hatties??

Mainland mall demographics don't work in Hilo.

Most mainland business strategies don't work on the island, yet our "representative" lawmakers insist on mainland-style regulation...

someone was asleep at the wheel when they thought that location was a good spot for retail tourist business! terrible access off of a busy road coupled with bad signage was a recipe for disaster. i predict that building stays empty for awhile

When (notice I didn't say "if") Sears goes out of business in Hilo, it will be their own fault. The customer service is worse than non-existent. You have to hunt an employee down like a predator, and when you finally corner one and ask them a question, they tell you that it's not their department, then they scurry off like a young gazelle sprinting off to join their herd of employees who don't care about the customers. One time I couldn't get anybody to give me a price on an unmarked item in their garden center, so I stood in line for 10 minutes at the register for the completely uncaring, don't-make-eye-contact employee to give me the generous favor of scanning it for me, just to inform me that the store doesn't stock that item, and they couldn't sell me the one I was holding. But he could probably put an order in for me to have it in 3-6 weeks. Longer if there wasn't one on Oahu. One time I did make the mistake of buying a weed wacker which died before their warranty period (which they would not honor) and I couldn't complete the purchase without making up a mailing and email address which is required for some reason just to get out of there. I made one up rather than give my real information because I felt like, otherwise, they win. When I was a kid I used to love going to Sears, now I hate it. I don't even like parking my car near there for fear that something horrible is going to happen to me by osmosis. My experiences at Sears in Hilo have been so bad, I won't even go into that store to check prices. I would rather drive to Kona or listen to my teeth getting drilled by a backyard dentist.

Wasn't that built out a few years ago as a high-end auto dealer? THAT didn't last long...

Wasn't that high-end. When we were fresh off the boat we went there and the used car we wanted to look at wouldn't start.

It started out as a Volvo dealership, then it went through a couple of incarnations before trying to be a coffee and gift shop.

If you're in Kona check out the food section at Kmart. Last week they had cupnoodle 5 for a dolla. Other places might have sold out but they had the big wire basket was half full. The next day they were gone but they had 8th Continent soymilk half gallon/dolla. I bought it on January 6 which was the date on the carton.
