The life of the land is perpetuated in incompetence & Liquified Natural Gas
#11
Been meaning to get back to this... so much time and so little to do, strike that, reverse it, etc, etc...

Tang - Agree 100% with you on that.  However, I was speaking of Glick's boss, who hired him.  The Honorable Josh Green-san. The yen stops here?
It's an interesting idea - guess I never clocked Glick as a ringer for LNG given some of his more recent work and focus on renewables. Green still has another term to win and fulfill, and while I doubt this LNG favoritism is going to sink those chances, it seems like an early start to getting his industry ties and related rewards all in order. Maybe have to put this in the "voters don't often get what they want" category as politicians of all stripes have gotten quite good at doing the bidding of industry and fat cat donors. Pull on these strings long enough and you end up sounding like that German fellow with the beard from a couple hundred years ago - “The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them.”

Go Kings? (and/or Queens+++)? What would King Kamehameha plan, long term if he were alive today? How many Kukui Nut trees would it take to supply enough biodiesel?
I don't think you need a monarchy or dictatorship to tackle large-scale environmental issues (although the contrasting political approaches are well outlined in 2018's Climate Leviathan) just some sustained focus like on the 1960's moonshot which was maintained through 3 different presidents across both political parties - try to image that happening today (cough cough Inflation Reduction Act cough)

Perhaps you can answer with the inside perspective why climate change is a political issue, and not a scientific one, like space exploration? Seems like people soaked up the oil propaganda because it absolved them of any tough choices or personal responsibility and so people latched onto those selling the easy, but incorrect, answers. But maybe you have a greater experience or insight here.

Also, any update on the kukui nut biodiesel? That article is from 2012, and here's a study from 2023 still just characterizing kukui nut oil, much the same as these articles from 1913. I know island time is a thing, but come on!

So that happened. I've never felt this way before. Marks calendar.
Well, to be fair, you largely just quoted back to me the Sierra Club source I provided you, so there's really little ground for disagreement. I promise to find something to nitpick next time though.

So lucky.  Aironiyaku-san, chiteki de keii aru taiwa o itadaki kōei desu.
Mondai nai. A hui hou!

It's not specifically climate change -- any scientific problem (really, any "fact") can be politicized to divide and distract the public, and it doesn't have to be 100% effective, the hysteria merely needs enough people to buy in such that reasonable discourse is squeezed aside. The 24-hour news cycle and social media keep almost everyone distracted. Round and round we go, ever faster, right down the drain.

Well, I know it would not be pono, carbon wise, but If you hurry, there is still time to let him know what you think - in person.

"Josh Green's Chili & Rice Fundraiser. $10, comes with a cookie.
All proceeds support the Hawai'i Foodbank as part of the State Employees' Food Drive"

Seems like a good thing to help provide those Food resources for resilient Punawebbers you are/were so interested in.

If you haven't given at the office like UH ($54,000 in cash & more than 122,000 meals previously), or the City & County of Honolulu where Governor Joshi-san currently works and resides ($20K+ raised so far), you can always donate directly to the Hawai'i Foodbank and perpetuate the life of the land in righteousness as compared to your thread title.
