Gutter to buried pipe to catchment?
#11
Based on what other folks have said the draining and/or subsequent rain will likely shoot most of the debris out of the pipe, though you could probably snake or dredge the line after that if you had to.

If so, I guess I'm supposed to unscrew it, let it drain, and then?

That one is "ok", but in my experience, a upward facing wye is better than a tee since when you open it you will get a gush of water that will force out most of the stuff in the ground pipe. A tee is more apt to allow the stuff to go past it and into the tank inlet.

Also, yes, if you're cleaning your roof or gutters, just unscrew the plug; do all your cleaning and let little stuff go down the downspouts. It will all be deposited outside the cleanout after the next big rain. Even with a tee, this stuff is unlikely to go into your tank, since the moment the water level reaches that of the cleanout, it will dump out of it. Of course, it's unadvisable to allow big stuff to go down your downspouts. Also, put a coat of teflon on the plug; otherwise, PVC plugs tend to bind to the PVC thread and no amount of torque can release them without cracking the pipe.
